My grandfather Arthur Shaw was born in Earlstown about 1882. His Parents, James and Eliza Shaw had 8 sons, 4 of them born in Earlstown - they then moved to Birmingham. My query is - does anyone know if early records of people who worked at the Wagon works were kept?
By early I mean from 1852 up to 1880's.
My gt gt grandfather Abel Jones was, certainly by 1873, a Steam Hammer Driver, living in Regent Street, and the photo on the site of March 1878, showing the record for building a wagon at the works, which Ian Fisher of Newton-le-Willows identified the men involved, included a Jones - I simply wondered if there was any way his christian name could be known. It just might be my gt gt grandfather if this turns out to be Abel, he would have been 59 at the time. I'd be grateful for any help. Thank you.
